Some people say that it is not important for families to have a meal together. Personally, I disagree with the idea that having a meal with family member is not significant for two reasons. First of all, family relationship can be enhanced by having a meal together. Second, children can keep their healthy.
To begin with, family relationship will be better by having a meal together. Of course, modern people are living in busy life, and it may be hard to take meal time together. However, meal together is a good way to improve family friendship. My high school year shows how important family meal time is. Both my mom and dad had jobs. In fact, they put more emphasis on their work duties than on family life. My father only cared about getting promotions and spent most of day at workplace. My mother was busy running a small business day and night even a weekend. Naturally, we had little time together. Lack of conversation meant more distance among us. Worse, although my parents spared no expense in improving my school grades, I just went astray. Also, I was addicted to online computer games and social networking websites. My parents always complained that they were distracted between their work and a sort of concern about me. Finally, they decided to sacrifice their work and stay more often with me. First, all of us made it home on time for dinner everyday. Then, eating out every weekend was best for family socializing. During a meal time, we talked about a lot of things. As I felt closer to parents, I came to listen to them. Not surprisingly, I stayed away from the computer and kept more focused on school activities. This shows that having a meal together help family to be better.
In addition, eating with the family guarantees a healthier eating habit. Today, it is possible to eat anytime or anywhere. Nevertheless, family food on regular basis helps young people avoid unhealthy food. A TV program showed children who are used to home-made food do not eat fast food. No doubt, fast food like hamburgers and carbonated drinks are most responsible for child obesity. In this program, some mother prepared breakfast and dinner at home for their children. The mother used only organic food ingredient and made sure a balanced diet rich in nutrients and low in fat. The homemakers never let their children eat junk food outside of home. Interestingly, their boy and girl did not feel like eating hamburgers and pizzas that other children were crazy about. Not only did they dislike fast food, but they were aware why these were bad for them. This is because they learned about healthy eating habit during family meals. In this regard, family member should eat together at home.
In conclusion, I disagree that it is not important for families to have a meal together for the reasons that I have mentioned above. First, family gets closer by eating together. Second, a healthier diet is guaranteed. |
