Opinions vary regarding whether it is better to be a member of a group than to be the leader of a group. I agree with the statement for the following two reasons. First, being a member of a group does not have to take on huge responsibility for the group. Moreover, members of a group can spare more their own time than leaders.
First of all, being a member of group is better than being the leader because leaders have to be responsible for result they take on. In general, a leader of a group is given more chance to make important decisions than other members. However, those decisions make the leader feel stressed and irritated. Thus, I prefer to be a member of a group since the leader takes all the blame and resulting responsibility. According to the study by Korean National Research Center, 71 percent of surveyed CEOs answered that they suffer from severe stress and tension, which come from their responsibility in a group. Based on the study, they would sometimes like to escape their responsibility because their decisions can strike a serious blow to the destiny of a group.
In addition, a leader of a group cannot make more their own time than the members. In these days, many people are bound and driven by hectic schedules. In this sense, since they are undertaking many workloads at the same time, they have difficulty in being a leader of a group, who takes on huge responsibility for one workload. So, to achieve people’s business goals, being a member of a group is better than the leader. Take my case as an example. During my university years, I had played a role in school invention club. I was overwhelmed with heavy workloads because I had to prepare a crucial event of the club and attain my academic goals at the same time. Eventually, at an expense of my academic purpose, I focused on holing an important event of the club in order to escape blame from the members. If I had been a member of the club at that time, I could have accomplished to hold the event and to reach my academic goals. As my experience illustrates, being a member cannot be inferior to being the leader of a group.
In conclusion, I believe that if being a member of group, there are advantages that members do not take huge responsibility for the group and spare more their own time than the leader. |
