Some people may be opposed to universities that provide athletic departments with the same amount of money as university libraries. The reason is that university students' obligation is to effort in studying at libraries and the goal of many universities is to facilitate students to study in more comfortable atmosphere.
However, I strongly support the idea of supporting athletic departments is better than supporting university libraries. This is because students can stay in health and broaden social network.
To start with, sports activities play a significant role in promoting students' physical health. In other words, as universities afford students good facilities, they are able to spare a bulk of time in maintaining good health. A variety of physically active aerobic exercises such as cycling, swimming, and running, especially during one's twenties, build and strengthen bones, muscles, and joints. More importantly, habitual physical activity has a positive influence on circulation of blood and reduces the risk of hypertension and diabetes. Some experts verified that ever since universities spent money, equivalent of libraries in creating well facilities and equipments, the number of students who exercised went up. To enlighten this, a number of students are always interested in shaping good body and like to have sports activities.
Moreover, athletic departments can give students a chance to mingle with many people while doing some sports activities. This is because sports include a wide variety of group activities such as soccer, football, and basketball that require collective effort and cooperation. The best example of this is a soccer game. When participating in soccer games, students have the chance to learn how to cooperate and work as a team. They cheer for their teammates, pass the ball to one another through openings, and strive together for the common goal of leading the game victory, one that a single person cannot attain.
To summarize, I firmly believe that universities should give the same amount of money to students' sport activities as they do their libraries in order to maintain students' health and socialize them.
On the whole, I agree with the maxim "a sound mind in a sound body." That is mental fitness from health social relationships and physical well-being are the most important factors for their success. |
