The statement says that reading a book second time is more interesting than for reading first time. Although the statement sounds plausible at first, I do not think that repeated reading should be always amusing. Furthermore, I think whether reading a book one time or more cannot be a major factor which evoke impression to the readership.
Granted, some people believe that repeated reading can increase amusement for the readers. Indeed, some books are very unreadable and they usually make us confused. Specially academic literatures, such as proceeding papers in Nature or Science can be one example. Because these articles are generally written in unfamiliar words and often contains mathematical formula or terminologies which are very limited to special field of studies, most people cannot understand these books without additional background of related knowledge at once. Old books such as Greek myth or old bible are often so. The reason is that sophisticated euphemism and arcane expressions appear too many times when we are reading those books. Therefore, it is obvious that these books are really need of careful reading to fully enjoy the meanings of them.
Regardless of previous examples, there are actually many books which can be easily read by ordinary people. To illustrate, most books in public library or book stores, such as magazines, modern novels, essays are written in very easy words, as much as children or not well-educated people can read casually. In that, we cannot simply say that reading a book second time is more interesting than for the first time in these cases. Rather than this, If one had read these books before, they would feel less interesting than first time. Also, it is possible that the reading can bring more boring and banal feeling, without any freshness. In this respect, reading a book twice does not always guarantee its flavor for the readership. Moreover, one important point we should not miss is that most of our impressions from reading are fundamentally related on many other factors: bombastic articulations, distinctiveness of characters and so on can be more causal factors in novel, famous celebrities’ appearance in magazines can be other factor of entertainment in reading.
Finally, although reading a book twice can provide a beneficial way of reading especially when we face a certain decipher-like books, I disagree with the idea that repeated reading should be a best way of reading. Instead of this, it is more accurate to say that the style and content of a book definitely decide how many times of reading we need to fully enjoy a book |
