Students spend a lot of time in grappling with subjects that do not really interest themselves in the course of their education. In this sense, I strongly agree that higher educational institutes should concentrate on professional education rather than general teaching becuase of better performace of students and the requirement of good companies.
To begin with, specific professional education could greatly motivate students to achieve thus, students can result better performance. This is because they themselves are very interested in those specific professional fields as they plan to pursue of as their future careers. Take one of my friends who is teaching English currently for example. Although she was good at English, she was often demotivated due to a math subject in which she was not interested at all since our high school mandated its students to study it as much as an English subject. She often considered ordinary and it even made her feel dejected. However, after she managed to enter a university to major English education, she started to fly over everyone else in her department yielding outstanding performance because she studied on subjects related specific career. Likewise, teaching about specific career greatly enhance students performance.
Moreover, companies require professional knowledge from their new employment. This is because graduates with professional knowledge show better competence and performance in business. According to a survey, directors of the human resource department of top 100 Korean companies point out two must-have qualities, professional knowledge in majors and foreign languages, for their new employees. It means people with general knowledge are not preferred among good companies.
In brief, I firmly agree with that higher educational institutes should provide their students with specific career education not only because it results in students’ better outcome but also it is required by good companies. Unfortunately, more higher education institutes are wasting their energy as well as students’ energy by focusing on general education. However, by accentuating specific professional education, they brings better educational effects on the whole.
