Traditionally, from the beginning of the history, art and literature have been the main part of academy history. However, these days this trend turned upside down after breakthrough improvement in science and technology. From my point of view, we couldn't ascertain that studying art and literature is more important than math and science.
Firstly, the demand for math has become more increasing. For this reason, students who are able to comprehend complicated code, which belongs to science, would have lots of chances to get hired in the market. Although the purpose of education isn't limited to make students get a job, but it has a considerable part of why we educate students. In addition, they are able to study art and literature easily by reading books. Someone could say that if students only studied but literature, they will become the person who doesn't have a warm heart. However, by reading books, they are also easily able to complement their lack of knowledge in this category. Rather, it would be more arduous for them to learn math and science after graduation.
Finally, learning math and science also requires students to develop their liberal arts knowledge, considered to be occupied by literature. From the patience to writing the reports, most students come across obstacles they had overcome. Handling these hurdles and going through the discovery and understanding about nature, they grasped the meaning of humanity one step further.
Therefore, we shouldn't denigrate the importance of learning math and science. Rather than not admitting its importance, it would be better options for students to study these subjects as well as the opposite subjects. Frankly speaking, both of them are not separated and students have the right to learn and develop their own interests. |
