Some people assert that the best way to know about the one country is to see the movie. However, in my opinion, this methods is not appropriate and we can not figure out exact matters about the other country’s cultures. First, movies only deal with the part of the culture. In other words, generally, movies show the facets of the one country people’s life, culture, and thaughts. Therefore, movies can send the misleading messages to the viewer. I have my own experience about this. Before I deployed to the Cambodia for my work, I saw Cambodian movies. The movies was about the Cambodia’s political issue in the past. That event was so severe to all Cambodian citizen who live that time so I had some stereotype over the Cambodian that they might be serious and smileless. However, when I just arrived and worked with them, I never felt about that kind of emotion. They were very happy, and sometimes funny, positive people. Second, movies only focus on the story, not the general situation. To be specific, movies have special settings and situation, so they don’t deal with the whole part of the country. I want to say my dream that admired when I was high school student. I am a big fan of the American drama, called ‘Friends’. There are 6 main characters and they live together in the Manhatten, New York City. Naturally, my friends and me dreamed live together whenever, in the New York City. However, when I grew up and saw the SNS posting about the prise of the home and rental fee in New York, I really suprise. It was too expensive to live. Therefore, I realize that the drama ‘Freiends’ was a just fiction, not reflected the real situations. To sum up, we can not know the countries by watching the movie. This is because, it only take the part of culture and is not able to show the real world circumstances. For this reasons, I disagree with the statement that movies tell a lot about a country.
