Topic : In some countries, people are no longer allowed to smoke in many public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good rule or a bad rule?

It is debatable that people should be restricted from smoking in public places and office buildings. Some people say that anti-smoking law in public places takes away the smokers’ right to enjoy their taste freely. However, I strongly believe that enacting a law against smoking is preferable action for the governments in that it will protect non-smokers from the danger of obtaining several diseases and prevent fires which would be caused by thrown away cigarette butts.
Most of all, innocent people protect themselves from the second smoking. Smoking is very detrimental not only to smokers but also to innocent people who just stand around them. It can inflict many critical diseases, such as heart and respiratory diseases on innocent people. It cannot be denied that they unconsciously make their lovely family members or friends suffer from such diseases. Therefore, by making laws against public smoking, the government can protect non-smokers from such harmful effects. For example, when, I read an article about indirect smoking, the article demonstrated that people who are exposed to second-hand smoke everyday have the 60% increased chance of getting cancer and other respiratory disease than those whose friends and co-workers are non-smokers.
Moreover, banning a smoking in public places is beneficial because it can prevent fires caused by discarded cigarette butts. Many smokers have tendency to throw away their cigarettes on the road carelessly. They could ignite the papers in a trash can or even trees and plants on the mountains. This would bring about people’s injuries, deaths and significant damages to their properties. It takes much more time and efforts to restore the previous conditions than we expect. During this period, people who suffer from sudden fires would be frustrated and lose hope in their life. These disasters can be precluded with a single piece of carefulness. For example, according to research by KBS, a Korean National Broad Casting System, discarded cigarette butts by climbers are responsible for 67% of the fires in the mountains in Korea. In this regard, governments should enact anti-smoking law to protect precious lives and properties.
In conclusion, smoking in public places should be banned to save innocent people from second-hand smoking and protect invaluable lives of people and their properties.
