It wasn't long ago that people began to pay attention to the importance of childhood. These days, numorous psychological researches and case studies show us that a person's childhood years have formidible impact on a person's life. Therefore I agree with the statement and will explain why I believe so.
First, our childhood years is the period when we build our self-esteem. Self-esteem is the way a person sees himself or herself. A person with low self-esteem will have negative views or opinions about himself thus this person is likely to have negative attititude towards other people and the world. Additionally, once self-esteem is set in a person's inner self, it's almost impossible to change it, which means we take our self-esteem to our grave. Considering the fact that we develop self-esteem in our childhood, our childhood years is extrimly important.
Second, children are emotionally and physically weak, therefore they are suceptable to outside influence whether it is mental or physical. The main difference between children and adults is that adults are mature enough to defend themselves from any abuse, neglect or negative influence, while children aren't. This is why children need to be taken care of by their parents, teachers and society. For example, we see many criminal cases where we learn that a vicious murdrer's childhood abuse and neglect forced them to do what their parents have done to them.
Third, in our childhood we learn baic skills and knowledge. Children's brain is like sponge, which means they learn new things very easily and quickly like sponge absorbs water. We learn our mother tongue, basic rules of society, people relationship and people skills as we go thorugh childhood. If we do not learn these basic skills and knowledge in our childhood we will have a big problem when we join society as adults. We prepare ourselves for our future in many aspects in our child years by learning basic skills and knowledge from parents at home, teachers and friends at school.
Whatever it is that we get in our childhood, it lasts forever with us. Therfore I believer there will be no single person who would deny the importance of a person's childhood for the reasons mentioned above. |
