It has been a controversial that old people actually can enjoy their life. Some people say that young people conduct more abundant life than elders, because they have no limits in their activities and thinking. However, on the contrary, I strongly believe that old people are the real individuals who know real happiness in life. The rationale behind is that their happiness comes from settlement, and they get their own unique joy.
First of all, comfort is the source of their happiness. This is largely because they don't have any factors that make them unstable, such as financial problem, teenage children or conflicts with a boss. They are laid on the season for settlement. They've accomplished almost everything they've dreamed which most young guys try to find. For my experience, there was a middle-age man who had difficulty moving on of his legs. I met him when I volunteered in a facility. Even though he was having problem with his body, it seemed no problem to him. He said that when he was young, everything comes to him as a huge barrier, ranging from earning the living to raising his kids. But he also mentioned that after those years, kids leaving their nest, getting passion from his job, then he felt happy. He added that he didn't know that settlement can actually give him a peace in his mind which was greater than the accomplishments he made when he was young. On the other hand, young people have to embrace uncertainty all the time which would make them unsatisfactory
On top of that, joys that they usually enjoy are not something great but small. What's important is that they know exactly what kinds of events bring them excitement, which is acquired thorough whole their life. Therefore, they are satisfied with their circumstances even though these are not from something stimulus nor great. For example, my grandmother used to spend her time with kids in orphanage even though she was having ailments. One day, I suggested her to have some rest but she told me that she could not just abandon the kids. She adds that since she knew that she could be a help for those in need, she had to finish her duty before she left. Unlike many young people who are very arduous for finding their own space, old people can get happiness better.
To sum up, the elders' actual happiness can be greater than the young people. This is because it is comfort that gives them constant satisfaction, and they know exactly where they can feel happiness. Therefore, it seems obvious that old people enjoy their life better than young individuals. | |
