It is often said that people spend their time more on doing what they should do rather than the things they want these days because their parents and peers who indirectly force them to do so. However, I think people have changed to spend most of their time on the things they want to do. In this essay I will support my opinion with two main reasons.
First of all, these days, people tend to spend their time doing things what they want to do because they have grown to think about themselves acting as they want. It is obvious that more money are needed, so many parents are busy working outside to earn money. Because of this, they did not have much time to teach their kids to do what they say and to obey the rules which they should do. Thus, these kids grow up without enough teachings to do what they should do. They would just spend their time doing whatever they want. For example, a friend of mine named Jess has parents who always go out to earn money. She would always play computer games and would not do her homework, which she had to do. Later on as she grew she just did the same doing whatever she liked. Thus, as many people require more money, many parents go out to work without disciplining their kids to learn that they have to do what they should.
In addition, in the past, many people had farms to harvest together. Since they have to harvest at the right time, they would stop doing whatever they wanted to do and go out gathering them. Not only harvest, but they would also water and look for them because, if not, they would not have any ways to earn money. However, these days there many people do not farm any more. They go out to work in companies, which allow them to have more opportunities and time to do whatever they want. Having their own time after the works are done they spend a lot of time doing what they want. There was a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2007 that would investigate how much time they would spend doing what they prefer. The result was amazing. In 2006, 60 percent of the people would do what they wanted, but before in 1990s, 20 percent would do so. This shows that more than three times of recent people would spend doing what they prefer.
In sum, due to the changes in the society and in the economy, current people are likely doing what they want avoiding the things that they should do. I’m glad that I was born in this century avoiding those times when I had to do the things I should. |
