While the author of the reading passage argues that self scanning checkout would be beneficial to both customers and retailers, the lecturer oppsses the reading's assertion with counter views.
First of all, according to the reading, this system would make waiting line short, so customers will be very convenient with their shopping. On the contrary, the lecturer mentions that slef scanning checkout would slow the speed of the process, so it could cause more problems. The speaker also states that some shoppers would prefer check out by cashier because of unfamiliarity of checkout machines to customers.
Additionally, the reading passage then points out that it will be profitable for customers because it can show them information about products which would help them when they choose what to buy. The professor, however, counters by stating that this can casue impulsive purchase to those who are vulnerable to stimulating ads. She adds that shopping lists for reasonable purchasing would be no use becuase of these ads.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that this can be a solution to retailers in terms with reducing the cost of employees. The speaker, on the other hand, insists that even the machines need some people to supervise. According to her, hiring assistences of self checkout machine would cost a lot more than cashiers because they should know how to handle the machine so that they can solve the problems when shoppers need help with this system. |
