Since
the impact of exams on students is increasing, there is an ongoing debate over
whether exams encourage students to study or not. I agree with this statement
because students are affected by their test scores very much and exams can make it possible for students to be interested in their studying.
To
begin with, exams inspire students to study because test scores have a huge
impact on students’ studying. To be specific, students who got low grades are
encouraged to study because they hate to be recognized as inferior students in
comparison to other students receiving high marks. So, they try to make up for
their weak subjects. On the other hand, students who receive high marks are
motivated to study even harder because they do not want their grades to
decrease. For example, when I was a senior in high school, my homeroom teacher suddenly
started to announce only our mathematics scores openly after our midterm exams.
All of my classmates were very confused and some of them even cried. After
that, my classmates started to spend more time studying mathematics. Especially,
I studied 5 hours every day! After a few months later, we took our final exams
and the result was very surprising because most of students in my class got
better marks in mathematics much more than the formal exam while we got almost
similar grades in other subjects. Therefore, students are inspired to study by
exams because they are susceptible to their test results.
In
addition, exams also motivate students to study because they enable students to
be interested in their studying. There is a tendency that once students get
better marks in a subject, they gain huge confidence in their studying ability.
Accordingly, they gradually start to study by themselves and become to enjoy
their studying eventually. For instance, I was also not good at mathematics at
high school. However, in the final exams, my mathematics grades were up 30 points.
After that, I was no longer reluctant to study mathematics. I confidently
started to take part in my math course and asked questions aggressively. Thus,
exams hearten students to study because they allow students to be able to be interested
in their studying.
In
conclusion, I firmly believe that students are encouraged to study by exams.
This is because not only have test results lots of influence on students, but
also exams enable students to have interest in their studying. All in all, many
students feel uncomfortable about exams. Accordingly, teachers and parents
should make their efforts to help students not being burdened too much. |
