There is an ongoing debate whether televisions and movies have more negative effects than positive effect on behavior of children. Someone people argue that those materials have adverse influence on children as they have too much violent elements. I think, however, televisions and movies affect children positively because most of video materials made for children can assist children to develop their ability.
First of all, many broadcasting stations provide children with many educational programs helping children’s study. As everyone knows, children like diverse stimulus more than single stimulus. Therefore, educational programs teach boring and difficult concepts to children with ease. On top of that, children can acquire positive habits through useful television programs. For example, many children wake up early to watch kid’s program broadcasted in the morning. These programs also contain stretching time, eating foods without complaining, as well as brushing teeth properly.
To be specific, my young brother hated asking time because he couldn’t tell the time. Despite of my countless effort teaching him the time in the clock, he never understood how small needle and big needle can make the time. Eventually I gave up teaching my young brother after he cried severely. However, one TV program did it. He learned how to tell the time through morning TV program he liked to watch.
For those reasons, I believe that televisions have positive effect on children.
Second, movie made for children can encourage children to do desirable behavior. No one can deny that children easily take on other people’s behavior. Because children imitate not only negative behavior but also positive behavior, children will do positive behavior when they see appropriate movie.
There is BBC documentary following well-known psychological experiment. According to this documentary, children do violent activity when offered violent video clips. When they watch friendly behavior, however, children do friendly behavior. Furthermore, if they watch both friendly and violent behavior, almost children do friendly behavior.
Considering almost movies made for children contain positive behavior such as friendship, dream, and diligent, movie can influence children positively.
To summarize, I am confident that televisions and movies are helpful children’s behavior rather than destroy their appropriate development. My argument stems from the effect of educational program and behavior of children following positive video clips.
When it comes to effect of televisions and movies, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. |
