In order to ensure their graduates a brighter future career, universities put maximum proportion of their budget to improve students’ academic capabilities. However, physical department also deserves a considerable amount of support in a sense that sports are beneficial for students both physically and mentally. Although, university is primarily a place to educate intellectual lessons, physical education also plays a vital role to teach students they could not learn from lectures in classrooms.
To start with, students can learn how to interact and cooperate with each other by playing sports. Sports usually involve more than one person playing in cooperation to achieve a common goal, victory. Thus, while the students play sports with the others and strive to pursue a better result, they naturally get to acquire an ability to work as a team. For example, when a team plays basketball, the members pass the ball around and help each other to score. Sports is an activity which students can benefit by improving invaluable skills. Likewise, students can benefit from gaining social skills that justifies the support of the sports department.
Physical activities also provide students chances to have constant exercise. Since, students are busy with their studies and part time jobs, they do not have enough time to go off campus to exercise. It’s no wonder, then, these students might easily become unhealthy. If the school has adequate facilities for students to have regular workout, they would be far healthier. For instance, a gym open for students in the campus will reduce the possibilities students develop obesity or even worse diseases. As they can easily come and enjoy sports, they will also be able to relieve their stress which refreshens themselves.
Funding to the department of athletics would also contribute to enhancement of the students’ performance. Recent studies have revealed the unbelievable power of consistent exercise on the students’ academic performance. To illustrate, students who stretches or jogs daily showed superior performance in intelligence tests compared to the ones who do not work out on regular basis. Therefore, being physically active helps students to actually study better which is the original intention of the university’s funding for its library.
In a nutshell, universities should also offer the funding to the athletic department as they do to school library. On the whole, students’ physical and mental health, maintained by the role of physical activity, greatly contributes to their future success. |
