The Fahrenheit 451 is a novel about destroyed human environment from televisions and electronics. Just like the novel, televisions can destroy communication among friends and family. Although it has capabilities of destroying communication, I would also say that it has possibilities of creating more communications.
First, television creates the atmosphere for people to discuss and communicate more, not destroying, via sports and news. Since TV has all kinds of shows from political news to cartoon shows, it can gain a lot of viewers from children to adults, even old people. This means that it interests all age-level. This makes people to talk more, because when they see something in common, they like to talk about it.
Second, when you travel or move to some other places, you must make friends at the new place for various of reasons, such as getting informations about the new place. When making new friends, it becomes easy if you have something in common to talk about. For example, such thing as World Cup, it is worldly known event and you can watch it wherever you go. So, TV gives you a way to begin a new friendship.
Third, TV gives you information or sometimes it can be something that can educate you. For example, when my family moved to USA, my brother used to watch cartoon TV programs, such as Disney channel, all the time. At that time, he did not know a single word in English alphabets. So, only thing that he can do for fun was watching a cartoon channel. From the cartoon channel, he learned English quite a lot and he could be able to watch other channels as well when he learned English a bit. This made him to talk, literally, in English with his friends and teachers at the school where English is spoken.
In conclusion, TV is a source of education, entertainment, and etc. When we watch something fun, we want to share, discuss, and talk about it with others. From all the reasons, I would say that TV encourages people to communicate more, rather than destroying the communication among friends and family. |
