It sounds contradictory but many people assert that universities should focus on their academic goal, admitting the importance of other factors such as healthy habits and sound mind. As a result, most universities have still chosen to spend their money to only improve libraries and classes. However I firmly believe that universities should divert their concern from academic facilities because there are more significant factors than studying and the universities are a kind of small society for students.
First of all, the universities might have various objectives in addition to an academic goal. That is, students want to experience diverse activities including extracurricular activities. Those experiences are helpful to students' future life and make students develop their social skills. For instance, I participated in social voluntary work with the aid of my university. It was a marvelous experience and I could find my interest through the activity. Like this case, lots of students find their potential and aptitude from outside of school, not in classes.
Not only that, I think that the universities should perform a kind of small society in order for students to practice and be accustomed to the real society. In fact, high schools might just function as an educational role. However university students become expect more than educational institution. They realize that there is a huge, severe society that they don't know yet. So, they want the universities to provide second-hand experience s. If the universities concentrate on developing only libraries and classes classed, what is different from high school?
Therefore, the universities should give the same amount of money to sports and social activities as libraries and classes. Extracurricular activities perform an essential role to students, and the students learn useful lessons from those things. If it were up to me, I would not definitely make students miss these precious experiences. | |
