▶ Your Answer : In he reading passage, there is ample support for the author's point that thanks to merits of coal, the use of coal is continued in the future. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reason as a rebuttal to the author's point. First of all, the professor insists that a mining is complicated process, since coal near the surface is limited, and exhausted. So miners have to dig the groung deeper, which means it needs higher technical skills. This refutes the reading passage's claim that mining is easy way to dig because coal is buried near the surface of ground, and do not need professional mechanics. Secondly, the professor argues that a shipping coal takes a significant amount of costs since coal is very heavy and bulky. Therefore, it is more expensive to ship coal than other types of energy sources. This contradicts the reading passage's assertion that because there is no safety issue in transportation of coal, its cost is lower than other energy source such as oil, natural gas, and hydrogen. Finally, the professor suggests that since new mining machines are provided to the coal industry, there is much less need for workers. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that a new job sector is needed for the coal industry, including workers in the mining, and others for the maintenance.
