Some people says that book is the best source of gaining knowledge, while some people says that there are no source that are better than true experience. Personally, I agree with the idea that learning from experience is more important than learning from books. Learning from experiences is your own knowledge, and book is actually a subjective version of experience, since you can’t experience all.
To begin with, knowledge gained from experience is your own knowledge. No one taught you, know one told you, but you’ve got that knowledge yourself by experiencing. Knowledge gained from book is other person’s knowledge. You are just studying what other people had already found out. Perhaps you would wonder, why do we have to care about someone else? Why can’t we just learn from someone else? Well, you can. But if you only learn from books, you can never find out new things. That’s why experience is important. For example, Newton did not find out about gravity while he was reading books. He experienced the falling of the apple, and then he found out about the gravity. In this sense, knowledge gained from experience is more important than knowledge gained from books because you can find out new things that no one knows yet.
On top of that, book is actually just a subjective version of experience. It is written because it is impossible to experience everything in the world. For example, you cannot visit every single country in the world, so there are books which tell about countries’ culture and history etc. It is always the best if you can actually experience it. So, in other word, book is just like a substitute for experience.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that knowledge gained from experience is more important than knowledge gained from books because of the two reasons that I mentioned above. It leads us to new foundation, and book is just a substitute of experience. |
