Recently, general awareness that books are the best resource of leaning something has aroused as heated arguments. People who grew up from diverse environments maintain various understandings towards the issue. Some people disagree with the statement because books give us accurate information which is verified by experts while TV gives us many gossips as main information. Regardless of what opponents argue, my personal take on the matter is that we learn more through watching TV than reading books. I can list a number of diffent arguments that I could use to support my position, but I will limit discusstion to two of the most important points that I feel are also most relevant to the topic. Firstly, TV has much higher proximity than book and secondly, the way that TV tranmit the news by showing pictuer with sound helps us to understand the contents easily.
The first most convincing reason behind my contention regarding this topic is that TV's accessibility is much higher than books. Nowdays, alomst all people have TV at home and watch it every day. People can watch TV whenever they stay at home as well as they can also watch TV through smart phone and mp3. As there is no limit to access to TV these days, we listen and see many news and knowledge from it. However, the book's accessibility is much lower than TV because when you are reading a book, you should focus on it without doing something unlike watching TV. Also, you should hold the heavy book in you back if you want to read it whenever you want. In this way, I believer that the more possibilities to accesse, the more chances to learn.
The second point that I would like to bring to light in arguing my stance lies in the fact that TV's diverse elements which consist of the contents help our understading. TV show us to many contents by showing picture with sound. It makes us better understanding the contents as compared with books which give us message by reading only. To be specific, last week I read the news article about a recent research conducted by Center for congnitive science. They said that when people approach information through various way such as seeing, listening, touching and tasting, extent of awareness is much better as compared with one way approaching it one way. This clearly indicates that TV is more effecive source because of its multifucntional characteristic.
Looking at all the statements above, there are many reasons to be considered. To sum up, television's accessibility is much higher than books as well as it's various ways to give us information help us to understand better. I firmly believe that the aforementioned arguments adequately support the position that we learn more by watching TV than by reading books. |
