These days, there are pros and cons on the question whether universities should accept only students who have high scores. Some people might think that only students who achieve good grades go to the university because a university is a institute for studies. However, I believe that universities should be open to all students for the purpose of seeking for a job and expanding social network.
Obviously, spending on campus in universities enable students to prepare a future job. Advanced education is required to students not only who have great GPAs but also who do not have them. Some students who fail to getting good grades would like to learn particular skills helpful to get a job like handling computers or machines. Then, they are also capable to go to university to get such knowledge. Suppose that there are two students. One has a high GPA but he do not know what to do in the future. She just goes to a renowned university as others do. However, his campus life is not satisfied with himself. The other student has a low grade but she has a life long dream of becoming a programmer. Then, she decides to go to a college specialized in educating computer languages. She is acknowledged as a technician for a computer field and finally, gets a job before graduating. There is another reason that universities is not for only students who obtain good GPAs.
Evidently, universities make students build social network. Unlike secondary schools, students who have different types of backgrounds gather in universities. Every student has own culture in their hometown and they gather in one place. To get a good relationship with friends, they should understand different way of their lives. Such an opportunity comes from attending universities, when students engage in activities in school. According to a survey conducted by KBS, korean nations televisions, more than two thirds of administers in universities in Korea surveyed tend to think the goal of education of a university is not to only teach students who had a high accomplishment in their school tasks. These days, officers of colleges responded that they try to make many programs related to exchange students system, students clubs and sports activities to broaden social networks. This is because the ability to getting along with other people is helpful to being a successful people in social.
A University has various goals over teaching brilliant students who have good scores like helping students with getting a job and building a social network. People seems to overlook this point. |
