Some people might say the period of adolescence is the most important period of their life time or some might say that the period of senescence is the most valuable time of their life. However, I personally believe that the period of birth and childhood years ( from 0 to 12 years old) is the most crucial time of our life and my view can be greatly substantiated by the reasons addressed below.
First of all, it is the most important stage of physical development. In other words, when babies are born, their backbone are not fully developed yet nor their brain. Thus, they need extra care from their mom and plenty of nutrition is needed for the further physical development. I've studied that when babies start to nod their head up and down, it means that their cervical vertebrae was fully formed and when they start to stand up by themselves, it means that their lumbar vertebre was fully developed. The physical development that children are experiencing will be the strong foundation for their future physical and physiological health.
Secondly, it is the best time to learn languages as a native speaker. To put it again, their brain is in the best period of time that has capability to accept new information. During the birth stage, baby learn to speak their mother's language naturally. However, according to the intro psychology textbook, the childhood age is the best time to learn new language as a native speaker. That's why English kinder garden is so boom in Korea. Many Korean parents want their children to be bilingual and wish that their children can able to speak English fluently. However, if a adult start to learn a new language, there would be an accent on their pronunciation and they might have to think about the grammer before they speak or write.
In conclusion, I believe that the childhood years are the foundation and the base for our lifetime. If our foundation is not strong enough, we will fall down someday. As skyscraper fall down when the architecture didn't designed the base strongly. Therefore, parents need to care their children at that stage for their further firm development. |
