Yoo kwan-soon was one of the greatest people who sought soverinity from Japan, when Korea was being colonized by Japan. Although, she was only 19years old and was tortured physically and mentally by Japan, she did not stop fighting against Japan. Eventually, thanks to Yoo, Korea achieved freedom from Japan, and she became a role model of numerous Koreans. If I could ask one question, I would ask her how she sustained her hope and maintained her strong will.
Back in the time when the first world war was ongoing, Korea was invaded by Japan. Many Koreans were forced to move to Japan to do hard and uninviting labors for Japan's behalf. Also, countless Koreans were harassed, raped, and killed for Japan's enjoyment. At that time, many groups who sought freedom from Japan appeared; however, they disappeared due to fear towards Japan. Yoo was the leader of a group, who wanted to separate from Japan, and she did her best to drive Japan's influence out of Korea. Yoo certainly did earned hatred from Japanese; consequentially, she was sent to a jail. In that jail, she was forced to say "I love Japan or Japan is the greatest empire," or else she would be physically tortured, for example, being brutally beaten up and being not allowed to sleep. However, she chose to be beaten up by Japanese armies rather than saying those. According to historical news, Yoo kept saying "Korea is my country and will be separated from Japan." If I could have a conversation, I would absolutely ask what was the source that kept her strong enough to go through all the hardships. This is because in my country, Korea, many people are going through hard time due to economic recessions; as a result, many people choose the dark path, killing themselves. However, even though Yoo was mentally and physical assaulted, she stayed strong and led Korea's freedom. Therefore, I want to learn her strong mentality. |
