Teachers should not make their social and political views known to students in the classroom.
Some people argue that it would not be so bad an idea for teachers to reveal their social and political ideology to students. However, this should not be allowed for these reasons ; teachers can force their students to have a certain point of view about society or politics, and they had better concentrate on teaching rather than lecture about political issues.
First of all, teachers should be not allowed to display their social or political point of views because they are capable of making students to share their thoughts. Students go to school to learn from school, and when a teacher tells them about something, they are likely to agree with his/her statement even though it may be absurd. In 2008, there was a massive protest against the Korean government in Seoul. There were mostly liberal and progressive groups that were against the reforms and policies that the new government made. When the protest became chaotic and became a serious social issue, my homeroom teacher Mrs. Lee, told us that the government was corrupted and that we should all participate in the rally as it was a right thing to do for the society. So my friends and I all went to the protesting area, and cooperated the adults on riot. After a week later, however, we were informed that the teacher was arrested for violating the national security law, and that she was told by the protesting groups to send as many students on the site. I was furious when I realized what happened, and now I believe that teachers should be banned from making political statements in front of students.
Moreover, it is better for students if teachers focus on teaching rather than talking about what they think about political issues. This is because when teachers start on lecturing about social problems and political movement, students are deprived of their precious time on learning subjects required. There was one teacher in my middle school who liked to criticize the government for collecting too much taxes. In fact, out of fifty minutes of class, he would go on for thirty minutes. So, we could not learn much about the subjects he tought which were math and science. As a result, on a national academic test, our school's performance on math and science was a failure compared to the former year. Consequently, the headmaster of the school decided to replace the teacher with another instructor who could make up for our lack of knowledge in those subjects. This is why teachers should only concentrate on teaching, not social and political issues.
In short, teachers at school should never be allowed to make their statement about social and political events in the presence of students. They not only have the obligation to focus on helping students learn, but also should be prohibited from forcing their social and politcal ideologies to their students.
