0034 (AD) Businesses should hire employees for their entire lives. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Some people believe that hiring employees for their lifetime is very good in many different ways. Some people say that hiring employees forever would get company down for many reasons. I personally think that lifetime employment is not a very good idea. It makes workers lazy, and makes needless workforces to arise.
To begin with, tension is a good driving force which makes people work harder, and most of the tension that workers are getting is from the layoff. When the risk of getting fired goes away, it is natural that workers would not work as hard as before. Maybe the workers would feel more comfortable, and feel like company is their home. However, company is just company, and looking for profit. It is not like a family who would never throw someone away no matter how bad his/her mistake is. It is natural for a company to fire someone who did a good job of making debt. If company loses this power to fire someone who they don’t like, it would be very hard to control them. Company is not theirs. Why are the workers working for the company? There’s only one reason: salary. They care more about their salary then their company. When these people are sure that they would not get kicked out and get salary monthly forever, no one would work as hard as before. In this sense, lifetime employment gives a company more negative effect than positive ones.
On top of that, needless workforce would definitely arise when lifetime employment is executed. Along with that, needless spend of money for giving salaries for their workforce would be another problem that company should deal with. Every worker would become old someday, and company will keep on hiring new workers. Company only needs certain amount of people. Then what happens to Leftover workforce? They bring nothing to the company while getting all money they can get. This is a terrible loss for company. For a good example, there is someone who works in company which is executing lifetime employment. He is needless but company cannot fire him. So what they do is make him do the gardener’s job in company’s garden. As you predict, his salary would be same. Company is not a charity institution. Its fundamental objective is money. Using lifetime employment policy completely neglects this fact. According to this disadvantage of using lifetime employment policy, it only gives negative effects to the company, which makes it unattractive.
In conclusion, I definitely believe that hiring employees for their lifetime can do no good for the two reasons I mentioned before. It swipes off all the tensions that make the employee lazy, and it makes leftover workforce.
