Some people may think that people in the past was friendlier than who live in this competitive society; however, others may think that this is misleading. Although both sides have its concrete reasons behind it, I strongly believe that people who live in contemporary world have more rock solid relation with their friends. There are many reasons behind it but the most two essential ones are as follows. First, people can communicate with each other anytime and anywhere with the development of communication technology. Second, well-developed transportation system enables them to meet more frequently.
To begin with, the development of communication technology gives us a great opportunity to keep in contact with my friends constantly without the limitation of space and time. The reason being, even though we are separated, we can share our experiences and worries since we can have meaningful conversation with people for whom I really care persistently. Therefore, we are given the opportunity to understand other people more in depth and establish more concrete friendship. In contrast, people in the past have no choice but to meet in order to share their experiences and a variety of concerns. Concerning from my personal experience, I made some foreign friends while traveling around Europe. Unfortunately, I had to go back to my country and therefore we exchange our e-mail address and phone numbers. In spite of the limitation of the time and space, we kept in touch with each other constantly via e-mails and instant messaging programs and maintain our relation one step closer. However, my grandmother told me she had had an opportunity to meet foreign friend and share various experiences. Nevertheless, she was not able to contact with her new friend because of the lack of communication technology. She always misses that friend.
On top of that, people can meet directly with the improvement of the transportation system. The reason being, whereas people in the past hardly met each other once they were separated, we can reach not only most of the cities in our country but also other countries because of the well-developed transportation system. We can drive our cars ourselves and capitalize on public transportation to meet our friends. Take my one of my best friends, Sarah, for instance, back in her high school I had a great chance to receive a grant and study abroad in Japan. This was amazing opportunity to study cartoons in depth which he was interested in and make friends who have different perspective from a variety of environments. He created and reinforced his relationship with his precious new friends. After finishing the course, she worried about meeting her friends as much as she did in the school. However, she and her friends gather together persistently so far by traveling around each other’s country through airplane. If they had lived in the past, they would not have been likely to meet each other in the long run. In conclusion, people in the today can strengthen their relation with the development of communication technology and transportation. For these reasons, I firmly believe that we who live in this world are friendlier than people in the past. |
