Some people say that learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. I disagree with this opinion for two reasons. First, experience including mistakes in the history from the past can be a great help. Second, we can secure our viewpoint about the world by learning about the past.
To begin with, many historical incidents and academic theories related to our past can encourage strongly for us to understanding society. The past is a mirror reflecting ourselves that we used to forget easily. Naturally, in order to remember mistakes we did and prepare well our future, we should study the past. According to the study done at Brown University, a financial crisis departed from Greece has a hazardous potential to cause global recession. Current Greece administration decided to borrow financial costs from IMF. My country, Republic of Korea, also suffered some economic damages becuase of shortage of dollar and borrow dollar from IMF. My country had a hard time recovering the crisis and many labors were laid off. Now, we secured some know-how from the experience. Thanks to the learning effect, Korea did not recieve ciritical damages from financial cirisis triggered by U.S last year. If Greece administration studied our cases, they would have chosen better and got less shock. This shows the importance of experience and study from the past.
Furthermore, we can establish our perspectives about the world by studying the past. Many newspapers in my country have reported importance of history education. Nevertheless this importance, many high schools do not open history classes for high grades for national entrance exams. However, we should consider that ultimate purposes of education is to make strong identity and excellent perspective about our society. Many famous CEOs and politicians confessed that their hobby is reading some historical books and listening old stories to improve their wide sight. Besides, a host of studies aimed at upgrading students' future plan explains that students who studied history class showed better scores in the provision realated to leadership and crisis management than other students. Through a string of historical cases, we can get a wisdom and in-dept outlook to the world.
In conclusion, I disagree that learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present for the reasons that I have mentioned.
