While the reading passage presents three problems of placebo effect, the speaker claims that these problems can be solved by corresponding solutions.
The reading passage indicates that the placebo effect just seems to be worked in that some diseases can be cured as time passed. However, the speaker says that this argument is somewhat myopic. The lecturer claims that illnesses can be naturally cured but the placebo effect only works when the patients have been told that it is just as like a medicine. According to the speaker, then, the claim presented in the reading passage does not sound appealing.
The reading passage also purports that the placebo effect does not cure them but their expectation of the treatment does when considering the placebo effect makes patients to believe that pills will make them get better. This might be true in some aspects, but the speaker insists that if they are given what they believe, the pains will incredibly decrease. Accordingly, the speaker also casts doubt on the second point of the reading passage.
Finally, the reading passage points out that when patients are in under treatment, they try to alter their eating and exercise habits. As a result, it improves their health condition. However, the speaker suggests that the study shows that even though Parkinson’s disease patient did not change anything, the symptom of shaking hands was dramatically improved after treating the placebo. |
