There is an
ongoing debate over the pros and cons of the reliability of the news media. Some
people believe that the news media tell us a wide variety of information in an
objective viewpoint. However, I am against this stance because the information
delivered by the news media could be distorted or biased in many ways.
To begin with,
the news media sometimes conveys the information in an extremely sensational
way. Nowadays, there are many private companies playing the role of news media
and they try to maximize their profit to defeat other competitive companies. In
order to draw people’s attention, the companies deliver more sensational news
or extremely swelled information. Also, we can easily see a lot of surmised
news. As long as the purpose of these companies is making more money, the
credibility of information from the news media cannot be guaranteed.
However, even
assuming the above reasons are plausible, some may argue that even though the
news media just supplies somewhat modified facts, they are still facts exactly.
Yet, I still put an emphasis on my idea because there is one more important
matter to consider.
The news media
is closely related to many stake holders. They can be connected with a
government, other private companies. This makes it difficult to deliver
information in an objective way. Not only sometimes distorts the news media a
lot of social facts in order to avoid to be persecuted by a government, but
also it modifies intentionally in order to make more money which is come from
stake holder companies as compensation. Historically, it is famous that Hitler
in Germany deliberately manipulated news broadcasted to German citizens in order
to enhance his despotic power. This indicates how biased the news media would
be.
To sum up,
everyone may hold different position on this issue. Yet, all things considered,
I firmly believe that the news media is not trustworthy. This is because, it is
quite possible to distort information to earn more profit and the news media is
linked with many interest groups. |
