While the author of the reading passage argues that a direct-recording electronic(DRE) voting system is beneficial in voting, the lecturer opposes the reading's assertion with several counter views.
First of all, according to the reading passage, computerized voting system is more convenient, so it will be helpful to encourage people to vote. On the contrary, the speaker states that it is not easy to use, rather needs other's help which can violate the principle of secret in voting. The lecturer also mentions that especially those who are not educated enough to use computer would have difficulties in this new system.
Additionally, the reading then points out that the new type of voting can save time by eliminating the process of counting ballots. The professor, however, counters by stating that it can result in a suspicious output. He adds that since computerized voiting cannot storage individuals' voting results, we have to conduct another voting if there's problem, and it takes a lot of time.
Finally, the reading passage claims that since people can obtain information and pictures by computer when they're voting, decision making would be correct. The lecturer, on the other hand, insists that computer is untrustworthy. According to him, computer based voting is dangerous because there is a possibility that computer might be affected bugs or incorrect software which can produce twisted voting result. |
