As the society emphasizes the importance of money, people nowadays are having
a tendency to limit the definition of being successful only according to the amount of money a person possesses. However, considering that the meaning of being successful
are based on each person's values and point of view, being successful is a subjective term. In this sense, people with reputation and self-satisfaction can also be referred to as successful person.
To begin with, people with high social reputation within the society are successful. According to the theory of Maw Weber, a one person can be categorized into different classes to various classes simultaneously, and one's classes of reputation and fiscal wealth can be different. As this theory says, there are many people who are renown for their admiring quality or deeds, but those who refuse to possess large amount of money. Even though they do not have a lot of money, they are still recognized as successful people. For instance, Patrick Suskind, an the author of a world-wide bestseller novel "Perfume", chose to stay as a hermit and maintain life close to nature, instead of selling their his face to the public to gain monetary success. However, he is praised by the society as a to be successful person not because of his wealth but because of his reputation built up by his fabulous literature works. In this regard, one's reputation can also be a standard in determining one's success.
Furthermore, people who gained sense of complacency are also successful. Since
money is just a way of reaching their ultimate goal of life, being happy, people can
feel that they can become successful regardless of factors that are determined by the rules of society, the money. Moreover, the goals the people pursuit can be diverse, and many goals do not have to be involved with money. Owing to this, there are many people those who do not put great meaning in money, but still feel satisfaction in their lives when they accomplish their goals without comparing the amount of money they have with others. To exemplify, many people who chose to change their jobs to farmer and moved from urban place to rural livings feel great sense of fulfillment for their dream was to maintain a leisurely life with small amount of food that are enough to support their daily needs. Feeling happy, these people will regard themselves as a successful person . In this respect, sense of satisfaction can be a factor determining one's success.
In light of all these circumstances, people with social fame and sense of fulfillment are successful people.
