기숙사의 방 하나를 써야된다면 학교에서 당신의 룸메이트를 지정하는게 좋은가?
When a student lives in a dormitory, he should choose his roommate with discretion because roommates are people whom he will spend time together. Some people might say that universities should assign students' roommates in case someone is left out. However, I strongly believe that it is better to give students the chance to choose their own roommates because of trust issues and some people cannot get along with certain types of people.
Trust issues could arise when sharing a room together. This is because it might not be easy to trust a complete stranger; therefore, some students might be worried about their precious belongings for a while until they get to know more about their roommates, which could be stressful. Additionally, at first some roommates might be more suspicious about each other when they lose their possessions. For example, when a female student loses her purse that she had never carried outside, she is more likely to grow suspicion inside her mind about her roommate. As a result, invisible tension and wall could exist which hinder roommates to become close. However, when sharing a room with a close friend, trust issues usually become unnecessary.
Additionally, some people cannot live with particular types of people, but schools cannot guarantee compatibility. For example, if a non-smoker who goes to bed early shares a room with a night owl who enjoys throwing a party and smoking, he might get distracted by the party noise and could get adversely affected by secondhand-smoking. Thus, he might get stressed, and even worse he might get into conflicts with his roommate. This is not beneficial for students because dormitories, where should be the conducive place for students to study and relax, are the source of stress.
When it comes to sharing a room in a dormitory, I strongly believe that universities should let students to choose their own roommates. This is because staying with a stranger student could result in trust issues, which might be stressful, and roommates who possess different characteristics tend to get into many fights.
