I agree with that movies tell a lot about a country for some reasons.
First of all, many movies deal with topics concerned with a country. Some films deal with a country's history such as war, historic events, and so on. In my personal experience, about ten years ago I saw the movie that tells a touching brothers' story in the middle of war. The background of the movie was Korea, and that time the Korean War broke out. I think that kind of movies can tell foreigners something about Korean War and history of Korea.
Other films tell about people. It can be famous writer, artist, entertainer, politician, certain tribes and so on. Movies are visual arts based on stories of human beings, and many movies contain culture, tradition, social problems, peoples' life of a country. For instance, recently I've seen 'Godfather' series, which are well-known old movies. By seeing that movie, I get to know what mafia's life was like in the America, and see an aspect of the reality of American society at that time. |
