Television has brought about countless negative effects, for example, isolation due to lack of communication with family and friends. This is because Television programs might be highly addictive, in other words, it could make one to watch Television for "24/7." Not only that, it could look like communication exists on Television.
Television has numerous entertaining shows, for example, reality shows and cartoons. However, they are usually highly addicting that some people stay home to watch Television for "24/7." To illustrate, when I was in middle school, both my parents worked which means I was always alone after school since I am an only child. As a result, the first thing I did after I came home from school was turning on my Television because it made my home lively, in other words, I felt like I was with someone. At first, my initial intention to watch Television was to ease my loneliness; however, as time went by, I got so addicted to Television that I watched Television without noticing how fast time passes by. Not only that, I became inactive and glued to my sofa in front of my Television. I even "ditched" to "hang out" with my friends due to my laziness and addiction to TV. Not only that, even after my parents came home, who were worn out from work, I was watching Television. In this way, my parents did not need to be bothered by me and vice versa. Therefore, it was inevitable that I lacked interactions with my friends and parents.
Television seems to look like the source of abundant knowledge and up-to-date information to some people, in other words, they think that they can follow the growing trend without needing to communicate with others. As it is, many people heavily rely on Television considering it as the most reliable source of information. From my personal experience, when I had a heavy addiction to Television, I truly felt that I am more caught up with all the latest information than my family or friends. In other words, I felt that I did not need to interact with others because i thought they were being manipulated by people's mouth with thinking that I am the one who knows the truth. Therefore, it would have been not much to say that I had less communication with people than individuals who live on the top of mountains.
Communication has been destroyed by Television because programs it offers are highly addicting and hallucinate people to believe that they are caught up with all the information. When I reminisce my past life in middle school, I always regret not listening to other people. If it were not for Television addiction, I would have enjoyed a better life with more friends.
