Drivers have taken it granted for driving for nothing and many drivers do not charge when they drive. There has been a debate whether or not drivers should be charged for congestion when they drive in areas with heavy traffic. Some people say that it is plausible in that it can helps government’s finance in the long term and it is said to be effective in reducing traffic congestion. However I think this policy never makes it. First, it can be a burden for drivers. In addition, it makes people stressed out and it may reduce the number of cars in the road.
To begin with, drivers would consider the congestion waste of money. Although some people may claim that charging for congestion is helpful for government’s finance, it is undeniable that people feel it is unfair because of their clung recognition for congestion that they do not have to charge for congestion. For example, a recent survey conducted by National Gallup Research concerning this issue on drivers, more than 90% of drivers said that this policy should not be enforced. According to the survey, it was no wonder that drivers think this policy is impartial means of policy. Therefore, this policy not has to be enforced.
Moreover, this policy would cause opposite effect. Since many drivers considered the policy unjust, drivers would be stressful and discouraged whereby the number of cars in roads would be decreased. For instance, during the middle age, freelance barons conceived of policy maker or the government proved this issue. At that time merchants conceived of drivers were not hospitable this issue. In fact, the barons collected toll excessively. Barons, at first, could collect a lot of money, but as the merchants leave due to the lack of tolls, they could not collect money any more. Likewise, if this policy collect people’s toll for congestion, the number of cars in the road would be decreased, thereby making it impossible for governments to gain economic profit because of the opposite effect. Hence, this policy had not better be enforced.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that no one is in favor of this policy. Drivers would regard this policy as unfair means of policy and which causes the opposite effect, decreasing in the economic profit for government eventually. Regardless of what others saying, it is about time that people reconsidered this issue. |
