While the reading passage presents three advantages of teamwork, the speaker claims that these advantages are eclipsed by corresponding disadvantages.
The reading passage indicates that teamwork makes to find the solution much more quickly because individuals can cooperate with each other by using their own special abilities. Also, they are able to get things done more quickly if they divide the work and do it separately. However, this argument is somewhat shortsighted. The speaker implies that it would take much longer when considering there are a lot of people who have different ideas. This is because, they have to reach the point that all members can agree with. Thus, they will waste a lot of time on unnecessary debating. As the speaker points out, the claim presented in the reading passage does not hold any water.
The reading passage also purports that two individuals are better than one in that they can create brilliant ideas if they share their thinking. This might be true in some aspects, but the speaker insists that, there could be a person in a group who has a strong opinion and he would control the group like a boss and make other people to be afraid to speak out their ideas. Accordingly, the second assertion presented in the reading passage also does not sound plausible.
Finally, the reading passage points out that teamwork could make individuals more get involved in working when considering they are not under the pressure of responsibility. However, the speaker suggests that some people could abuse the advantage. It definitely has a negative effect on other members’ of group. For example, when the project is finished, all individuals get same credit even if some of them did not work hard. Therefore, it is not proper to say that the last piece of evidence is substantiated.
In summary, the lecturer casts doubt on teamwork, which was explained in the reading passage. |
