Those who consider having convenient life to be the primary concern might say that improved technology have enabled us to lead a simpler life, but I do not agree with the statement in the topic. There are two major aspects: intricate human relationships and fierce competition among people and nations.
To begin with, when it comes to having a simpler life, developed technology has impacted us adversely. In a sense, it is true that because of state-of-art technological inventions such as cars, airplanes, mobile phones, we can save much time in that we can go anywhere in a short period time and even keep in touch with others without physically meet them by taking out our spare time. Thus, we lead a much simpler and faster life than people in the past. However, it is not nearly true. These inventions may seem only advantageous and beneficial for our lives, in fact, it is these that make out lives much more complicated and stressful. For instance, in the past, people read books in order to broaden their perspectives and knowledge and they did not really have to maintain various intricate relationships with others in order to amuse themselves. On the contrary, today, people depend upon Internet to get the information they need and they have no choice but to follow the trends of doing things together with others in order not to feel isolated and not to be behind the trend. If a person does not have the computer and does not know how to operate it, that person is more likely to feel that she/he is not following the trend this society is pursuing. Moreover, if a person does not own things all the other people have due to lack of money, he/she may feel that he/she is lonely. As soceity is getting more complex, everything is now so complicated. Therefore, the way of feeling united has changed. It was to share the same idea and opinion, but now it is to have things in common that they realize they belong to the same society under the same standard.
Furthurmore, as far as having fierce competition among people and nations are concerned, technology that we are granted affect negatively in people possessing a simple life. From fighting for the position in the same company among coworkers to political issues around the world, there is nothing more worse than having developed technology. Suppose that you are at the firm as a manager of the department. The department requires a lot of traveling due to the globalization of the business. If you are not in the situation that you can travel all the time, other people in your department would be eager to do the work that you cannot do, not because you are lack of ability to do the task, but you are, lets say, very afraid of traveling over the planes. You may get fired due to this fact and you are more likely suffer from mental stress and financial hardships. Moreover, lets take a current subprime mortgage issues as an example. In the past, a government did not have to worry about other nations' economic situations bue thanks to the technology we are having, we have to take all these factors into consideration in order to make an critical decision which means that it is a lot more hard to manage our own ecnonomy than the past.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that people in the past lead much more simpler form of life than people living in today because they did not have to worry about keep having stable relationships with others and politicians and workers did not have to concern others' situation but to do their best in tasks given to them. Thus, developed technoloies have made our life much more complex and very difficult to lead a successful and happier life.
