In this set of materials, the writer and the lecturer cover the issue of Hydrogen Energy. The writer is claim claims that this energy is highly beneficial by giving some reasons. However, the lecturer is opposing opposes with the writer by rebutting each of them.
First of all, the lecturer says that the promising efficiency of Hydrogen Energy would not be revealed as not high enough as the writer says. The reason is that, when it comes to splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen, we need a lot of electricity which costs a lot. So we can see that this actually is actually very expensive. The lecturer makes this point evidential by giving specific evidences. That is that electricity is more expensive than the same amount of gasoline. This is in the strong disagreement with the writer’s statement that Hydrogen Energy is much a cost-saving technology.
On the top of that, the lecturer states that even though this renewable energy looks like always feasible all the time, but as a matter of fact, it is not so. That is because of the natural hindrance such as the bad weather. According to the reading passage, sunlight is the essential part of generating Hydrogen Energy. So if there is a lack of sunlight, the supply of Hydrogen Energy will not be guaranteed. This casts doubt on the writer’s opinion that Hydrogen Energy is eco-friendly.
Finally, contrary to the reading passage, the lecturer is saying that storing and transporting the Hydrogen Energy is quite difficult. That’s Because/Since this energy is very volatile, in the process of storing and transporting it as into liquid or solid is dangerous, and the alloying with metal is risky for the same reason. This totally contradicts the writer’s saying that this energy is easy to be stored and transported. |
