There is an argument over whether a job giving much leisure time is
greater than a job providing a higher wage. Although some people disagree with
the aforementioned statement, I firmly believe that more leisure time provided,
the job is much better regardless of a high salary due to following two
reasons. Most Importantly, It is likely to be more productive with lots of free
time rather than with a high salary. In addition, people tend to be more
satisfied with their jobs giving much free time.
First of all, people are prone to be highly productive when they
have a great deal of free time. Opponents to this idea may argue that payment
has greater impact on an employee’s productivity than everything else. This may
seem true, but the reality is quite different. For example, a study conducted
by Seoul National University Business School in Korea in 2005 reveals that more
vacation time a company gives, more successful a company becomes. On the other
hand, a salary doesn’t make pretty big difference. This study clearly shows
that by providing an employee with a more leisure time, the employee will be
able to even more productive. Therefore, it is pretty obvious that a job with
lots of spare time outweigh one with a high payment because of its productivity.
Moreover, people are inclined to feel more satisfied with much
vacation time provided by a company. Granted, money has great influence on
people’s job satisfaction as well, but in the reality, payment is not the most
significant factor which makes employee satisfied. For instance, a survey
conducted in 2008 by Samsung Research Group, the most influential company in
Korea, discovers that people are affected most by free time in terms of job
satisfaction. According to the research, over than 75% of employees consider
vacation time as the most important thing for their happiness. However, less
than only 20% chose payment. Hence, a job giving more free time is much better
than one paying more due to job satisfaction.
In conclusion, it seems evident that a job giving much time for
leisure is far better than a job providing high payment. This is because with
much free time, a worker will become not only highly productive but also profoundly
satisfied with its job.
