Some people say that the best way of learning life is through personal experience, for people tend to regard the problems seriously after they experienced through their lives. On the other hand, others, including myself, believe that it is better to learn life by their friends or family. I agree with this statement for the following two reasons: I can learn social skills and also share many experiences.
When it comes to social skills, learning life through others' experiences plays a pivotal role. Some might argue that following and listening to others' advice is not desirable, since the situation and value of people are different. However, they may not disagree that social skills are important elements especially in this modern society. Having a conversation about life with family members or friends, they show inner side of their mind and value to me. By doing so, I also share my sincere part and feelings while talking with them. Chatting and talking about serious and sincere topic with them, it is sure that it makes relationship deeper than before. For example, when I was in puberty I asked my sister to hear my problem about the crush that I had into a boy. Since my sister is 6 year old older than me and have passed the similar process, she heard my story carefully and shared her experience of telling how I can deliver my feelings to him. After sharing experiences of each other, we began to counsel about difficult problems ever since, like best friends. If I had not counsel or asked for my sister's advice, we would not have shared deep relationship as we are now.
Moreoever, learning indirect experiences also offer me to have broaden perspectives. Listening others' saying help me a lot to improve my narrowed-mind perspective. It is true that learning life through others' does not come sincerely than that I have experienced, but there is much more to learn through others' life. For instance, not only family members or friends, but also through books we learn life through others. This means that hearing to others' experiences of successful cases can help us to improve the quality of our live and find the effective way for self-development.
To sum up, learning through others' experiences is beneficial in the aspects of social skills and broadening one's perspective. |
