▶ Your Answer : There is controversy over whether university has to make students to take one course that teaches foreign cultures or not. I firmly believe that students have to learn about foreign cultures by taking a course. The reasoning behind this is that students can widen their thoughts and that they can get good job opportunities.
To begin with, students can get good chances to branch out. That is, they can widen their views by understanding other cultures that they have never faced. For example, until I was in high school, I have never been to foreign countries and learned about their cultures. Thus, I had been trapped in my narrow perspectives. I did not receive other points of view. However, I took a course that teached cultures of other countries when I was a freshman in university. I was very shocked because I encountered other ways of thinking and behaving of foreign countries that I have never experienced. After that, I have become a person who can accommodate a variety of perspectives.
Secondly, students who leaned about foreign cultures could be offered great job opportunities. In other words, in recent days, employers want to hire employees who can work smoothly in global circumstances. Therefore, students who have much knowledge about cultures of other countries are likely to be hired by many companies. To be more specific, my older brother attended a university where all students need to take a course about foreign cultures to graduate from the school. After graduating, he could get a job quickly because he got many job offers from companies which appreciated his ability to work well with foreign coworkers.
To conclude, I am convinced that students have to be required to take one course which teaches foreign cultures because they can have widened perspectives and because students can be more competent in job market. |
