▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, family meals play an
essential role in people’s lives in many of the places where they work or play.
Some people contend that, nowadays, it is not necessary to have a meal with
families, while others do not. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that it
is necessarily required to have a meal with other family members for several
reasons. To
begin with, when people have a meal with their families regularly, it allows
them to cultivate essential personal traits. Having family meals regularly
requires them many obligations, such as managing time, observing family regulation,
and respecting other family members. When such obligations are well fulfilled,
they are likely to improve important qualities needed for success. For example,
the high school teachers found a huge difference between the two student groups
in academic performance. One group consisted of those who had taken breakfast with
their parents every day, and the other group was made up of those who had not. The
teachers found that the former is more likely to have a higher score on their
all academic subjects than the latter. To be specific, the first group tended
to be diligent, passionate, and self-disciplined. This is because the students
of the first group had to wake up early, go to their kitchen on time, and talk
with their parents. On the other hand, the second group was likely to get distracted
easily, procrastinate, and act on impulse. The reason is that the teenagers of
the second one didn’t have to care about their time management, and thus they
became lazy. This implies that family meal plays a significant role in their
academic performance. Without family meals, the students of the former group
would fall behind. In
addition, having a family meal will help people to improve their mental health.
To survive in a competitive world, many of them spend the whole day working in
their workplaces, and feel depressed thinking that their everyday routines
become exhausting. However, by taking a break and having a meal with their
families, they are able to relieve their stress and recharge their batteries.
Thus, they can put more effort into their tasks again. For example, when I was
in high school, I spent the whole day studying all academic subjects, hoping
that I was able to get a higher score than others. However, I usually felt
depressed, thinking that my life became boring. My parents asked me to have a
family meal regularly and talk about my concerns at the time. By talking with
them, I was able to deal with such pressure and stress from my studies. As a
result, I became more positive and optimistic than before.
In
conclusion, I firmly believe that having a meal with family has a positive
influence on their entire lives. Thus, the importance of family meals cannot be
overestimated in the pursuit of happiness. |
