During childhood, this period is of importance because children have to feel and learn a lot of things, influencing their personality and learning ability. Although there is a heated controversy for advantages and disadvantages, I firmly believe that watching TV assist children. I will explain this by giving two aspects.
To begin with, by watching television, it stands children in good stead when it comes to learning. To explain, tv encompasses a variety of learning material, so kids enjoy what they learn and increase their learning performance. My personal example is a compelling example of this. When I was younger, my parents had me watch an animation program in English. The program is about a journey that a young tiger goes around to the animal kingdom. The advantage of this was that the subtitles were not that difficult for children to understand and included various educational contents. As a result, I was able to learn English naturally, unlike others who used to be taught in school or academy. Although I have never been to English-speaking countries, I can speak English fluently. If I had not watched the TV animation, I would not have had the ability to speak English.
On top of that, watching television is of help for children to experience something indirect. In fact, at the age of children, it is nearly impossible for children to experience and feel a lot of things because children have to go to school and study over and over again. Therefore, doing what children cannot do now broadens their perspective and contribute to the development of emotion. My friend’s experience, named Minsu, demonstrates this concept. When he was younger, he liked to watch a travel program. As his parents could not afford to trip to somewhere, they let him to see the program. The travel program gave him the real world so that he was able to feel something new every day. This experience made him have a dream of being a trader later because he wanted to go abroad and learn what he had never taught. As TV can imbue children a new world, there is nothing better than TV that is advantageous to children
Of course, there are shortcomings of watching TV that children could mimic violent scenes in dramas or movies, and it can disrupt their concentration. However, as TV has a role of improving children’s learning and implanting a grand dream, I cannot agree that TV is bad for children
