Without a doubt, responsibility plays a critical role in
people’s daily lives in many of the places where they work or play. Some people
believe that students should help their parents with household chores, since it’s
the best way to give them a sense of responsibility, while others do not. If I
were asked to choose one, I would say that helping students’ parents with household
chores is the most effective way for them to increase their responsibility for
several reasons. First and foremost, when students do household chores regularly,
it allows them to cultivate their sense of responsibility. Cleaning their own
houses regularly requires them many obligations, such as managing schedules,
observing family regulation, and being prompt on their work. When these obligations
are fulfilled continuously, they are likely to become more responsible for
their tasks. For instance, Seoul National University had conducted research on a
huge difference between two groups of teenagers in their academic performance.
One group consisted of those who had done their rooms neat every morning, and
the other group was made up of those who had not. The researcher found that the
former is 40 percent more likely to complete their academic assignments on time
than the latter. In particular, the first group tended to be diligent, punctual,
and self-disciplined in studying their homework. On the other hand, the second
group was likely to get distracted easily, procrastinate, and act on impulse
when they studied. This implies that keeping their rooms neat increases their essential
personal traits and makes them more responsible. Without their regular habits,
they would fall behind. In conclusion, I think that the advantage of helping their
parents with housework is the best way to cultivate their sense of responsibility.
All in all, the importance of responsibility cannot be overestimated in their
lives.
