▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage contends that there are reasonable explanations that why a strange weather phenomenon called as a red rain occurred. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict the reading passage's claim.
First of all, the lecturer argues that red rain resulted from the blood of bats is far-fetched. The expert says that this could be possible when five million of bats are destroyed at the exact same time, and this is hardly possible. Also, the wings and bones of the bats were not found in this spot, which means there was no concurrent demolition. However, This counters the reading passage's claim that a tremendous flock of migrating bats was died by a thunderstorm or meteor burst and there is bat DNA in the red rain.
Second, the lecturer asserts that volcanic eruption has a possibility, but this is not proved yet. To be specific, if volcanic eruption occurred in the Philippines, it naturally should happen in the Philippines India too, but it did not. Moreover, the red rain did not fall between the Philippines and India such as Vietnam or Malaysia. In contrast, this refutes the reading passage's claim that when Mount Mayon erupted, a lot of dust went into the cloud and spread by the winds.
Third, the lecturer maintains that there are few factories in India. Therefore, there is are not many chemicals near this country. Also, if it is because of the chemicals, they should be near the city, not in suburbans such as Kerala. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that local factories released harmful chemicals and this caused the red rain, especially the factories without filters.
