Some people take it for granted that research on animals is not helpful or dangerous because they are very different from human being. However, I strongly believe that studies on animals can provide people with sophisticated understanding of human nature. There are two main reasons: to gain necessary lessons and to improve health.
First of all, observing animals, especially the one which has social abilities, offers people invaluable life lessons. The important reason is that there are plenty of similarities between human beings and animals. In particular, animals which maintain social structure for their survival can give a great insight into society of humans. For instance, through making an close observation of cooperation of ants in a wide variety of tasks ranging from building their shelter, obtaining food resources, and fighting against their predators, people are able to learn about an importance of working together which can increase work efficiency and strengthen common bond. Thus, we can take a quantum leap in growth which helps people more mature and wiser.
In addition, learning about animals can have a positive impact on health of human beings. This is mainly because research on animals is able to offer crucial implications relevant to health which is highly likely to be true for human beings as well. For instance, a research conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2011 demonstrated that stress have the adverse effects on health through numerous tests on mice. In the research, the mice were subjected to several electric shocks in a cramped box. Afterwards, the researchers discovered that the stress hormone cortisol in the mice was hugely increased, and this led the mice to get several illnesses and their life span was shortened. Interestingly, they found a link between this and human beings who suffered from chronic stress. It can be inferred that the stress has correlation with health of not only the mice, but also the human beings.
