▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage introduces three possible solutions to solve the problem of the injuries of birds casued by glass windows. But, in the lecture, these three solutions are not effective to solve the problem.
First, the writer suggests that the one-way glass can prevent the crash between birds and windows. People in the building can see out side through the one-way glass and birds outside can figure it as a solid barrier. However, the lecturer disagrees with the statement because the ouside of the glass looks like a tree or a sky. The outside of the mirror reflects the scene of outside and birds would recognize it as a outside.
Next, the reading passage asserts that the painted stripes on glasses make birds avoid the injuries. People inside still can look outside through the unpainted striped on glasses and birds would not try to fly through the glasses. That being said, the speaker points out that birds still think of the unpainted area as an open hall. They perceive that they still can go through it. If we decrease the gap between stripes, it results in a darkness of building inside.
Last, the reading passage contends that an artificial magnetic field can be a solution to the problem. When birds fly, they use magnetic fields to navigate so the magnetic field of the building outside helps birds to detour the building. But, the lecturer casts doubt on the statement because birds don't make use of the ability when they fly short distance. They use their eyes or light in short trips so the artificial magnetic field does not affect birds at all.
