▶ Your Answer : Many people recognize that taking history courses is important for people, including university students. However, as society becomes more complex, university students have to endure countless textbooks and assignments for their future career. So they are too busy to take extra history courses. In this sense, I disagree with the statement that all university students should be required to take history courses. First and foremost, taking history courses is not helpful for university students’ future career. This is because no companies requires historical knowledges. Moreover, understanding the daily lives of university students, they must patiently sit through traffic to go to their university everyday. Once they get to school, they have to take the major classes they need to graduate first. In addition, they have to do their assignment and extra study for their future career jobs even after they finish their classes. Such exhausting routine repeats itself and eventually wears down university students. In this regard, not only it is unhelpful for their future jobs, but considering the busy lives of university students, they do not have to take history courses. On top of that, we had already learned a lot of historical knowledges from elementary school to high school. To be specific, it is necessary to take history classes at high school for at least four hours a week. Four hours a week is enough time for students to learn fundamental historical knowledges. For instance, when I was a high school student, I took both Korean history and world history classes, and all I did was focused on history classes, I got a intermediate level history certificate without extra efforts. Also, the university offers various history culture classes for students who are interested in history. Therefore, it is not difficult for students to take history courses if they feel the need or interest in history. To sum up, to force university students to take history courses is not reasonable. Thus, university students do not need to take history courses. Consequently, the importance of my view cannot be underestimated for the reasons I mentioned above. |
