▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, learning plays a significant
role in people’s daily lives in many of the places where they work or play.
Some people think that it is more important for students to understand ideas
and concepts than it is for them to learn facts, while others do not. Both
sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I had to choose
one, I would say that understanding ideas and concepts is more essential than
learning facts. There are several reasons as follows.
To
begin with, students can get a better score in school. If students understand
ideas well, then they can think deeper and deeper. It brings a high score in
school. For example, when my youngest brother was in high school, he focused on
learning facts or theories in mathematics. However, he could not get a good math
score because he was willing to just memorize facts. Fortunately, he had
changed little by little after focusing on understanding concepts. He could
think deeply about the problems after he perfectly understood concepts. As a
result, he got a great grade. If he had focused on learning facts and memorize
them, he would not get a good score. As we can see from this example, the
essential thing in a study is understanding concepts rather than learning
facts.
On
top of that, students can build creativity. Students tend to do various
experiments about ideas when they fully understand the ideas. Through a wide
array of experiments, students can develop their creativity. For instance, when
I was in middle school, I usually learned only facts. However, I had no
interest in facts because I could not link between facts that and my life. One
day, the new science teacher focused on teaching ideas, not theories. After
taking his class, I began to experiment everything about ideas that I learned
in the class. For example, I did an experiment that comparing the water and oil
after learning the concept of the water. With such experiments, I could improve
my creativity, and I could matriculate into the science high school with my
creativity and further curious about various concepts. In the light of the
archetype, understanding ideas is the most important factor for students.
All
things considered, I strongly believe that the advantages of understanding
ideas far outweigh those of learning facts for the reasons I mentioned above.
All in all, the importance of comprehending concepts cannot be overestimated in
school life. |
