▶ Your Answer : Due to various factors such as technology development and cultural changes, lifestyles of people changed overtime. Regarding how people spend time these days, there is a controversy on whether people spend too much time on things they enjoy. I agree with the idea that people spend too much time on personal enjoyment rather than on must-do tasks for the following reasons.
First of all, technology development made enjoyable things more accessible and thus people spend more time enjoying things rather than working. For example, due to introduction of Netflix and Youtube, people can enjoy videos at home and do not have to go through the hassle of going to the theaters. In the old days, people might have chosen not to spend time watching a movie and rather stay at home, doing work or house chores, because they were reluctant to spend time and energy to go to the theater. These days, as people can enjoy entertainment easily, they choose personal enjoyment over the work they should do.
Secondly, the culture of nowadays put more emphasis on enjoyment than work. More and more people think work-and-life balance as an important factor and they choose not to spend too much focus on work. In Korea, an act of regulating working hour to maximum 52 hours per week has been passed and this clearly depicts the cultural change. In addition, the word 'YOLO-You Only Live Once' became popular and this also shows that the culture these days encourage people to enjoy their time. Due to the change in the social atmosphere, people tend to spend more time on personal enjoyment.
In conclusion, how people tend to spend time changes overtime and people today tend to spend time enjoying things rather than working. This is mainly due to two factors, which are technology development and cultural change. The former factor made enjoyable things readily available to people and the latter factor encouraged people to enjoy their life. |
